Catoctin Furnace - This painting was inspired by a visit to the furnace ruins.  Images used to create this painted came from personal photographs, images from the internet and information and images from the book written by Elizabeth Anderson, titled "Catoctin Furnace - Portrait of an Iron-Making Village".  In addition to the book and photos, I did much research on Iron furnaces around the 1800's.  This is my vision of what the furnace might have looked like in the latter half of the 1800's shortly after it was converted to a "Hot Blast" Furnace.  The painting was done in 2017 and is 24" by 36".

I have done two versions of this painting (Long Story)  the original - shown here - resides in a private collection.  I painted the second version specifically for the Catoctin Furnace alliance.   It can be seen at the Catoctin Mountain Furnace Museum, in Thurmont Maryland.  You can find the Catoctin Furnace Alliance online at www.catoctinfurnace.org to learn more about their restoration and preservation efforts.
